Secret Millionaire Donates Entire Fortune To His Small Hometown Upon His Death.

Multi-millionaire Geoffrey Holt.

Geoffrey Holt was a “nobody” in the public eye. An octogenarian employed as a caretaker at a mobile home park in Hinsdale, New Hampshire. His days were spent taking care of the grounds around the park. He often went around town on a lawn tractor, having long since given up his car. After toiling in a grain mill, the former production manager went on to teach driver’s ed. After retiring, he worked at various odd jobs in his later years. When he passed earlier this year, the unknown millionaire donated his entire fortune to the town he loved.

Wearing threadbare clothes, he was seen around town as a curious old man. He collected model cars and trains but lacked many standard furnishings or other material possessions. But Mr. Holt did have two things. He had a BIG secret and an even bigger heart. Geoffrey passed away in early 2023. In a move that would stun the tiny town with a population of 4,200, he left all his worldly goods to the people of Hinsdale.

This is where the BIG secret comes into play. With his frugal lifestyle, no one would have guessed that Geoffrey had a portfolio worth a whopping $3.8 million! Geoffrey amassed the fortune from investments in communications mutual funds dating back to before cell phones were in everyone’s pocket. The millionaire donated his fortune to the residents of Hinsdale, but there are a few stipulations.

How The Money Will Affect This Small Community

The money will enrich health, education, recreation, and overall culture. Community leaders vowed to utilize the windfall as “frugally as Mr. Holt did.” There are no concrete plans in place yet. Community members have suggested upgrading the town hall clock, setting up a driver’s education course, or investing in a ballot tabulating machine (Geoffrey always made sure to vote).

Right now, drawing on the interest of approximately $150,000 per year, the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation will operate a trust. Organizations can apply for grants to support projects around the community. This unassuming man with a big heart will be a fond remembrance as the millionaire who donated his fortune to a community he loved.
