Scottish Fish might be redefining the meaning of “girl band.” This 5-piece Celtic fiddle band is based in Boston, Massachusetts, and all five members are women. They recently got together with family and friends for a good, old-fashioned Celtic music jam session. The result is a room full of Celtic good cheer, and they even had a dustpan player.

With Celtic music, anything can be an instrument. You’ll hear your fair share of fiddles, banjos, and guitars. One man is pounding a rhythm on his chair because he doesn’t have a drum. Add a keyboard player and the dustpan man; it becomes pure gold. At just over one minute, the jam session is an immediate pick-me-up. The light and lively Celtic music displays a room full of smiling people enjoying the moment.

Each of the members is in their early twenties. They met at the Boston Harbor Scottish Fiddle School between 7 and 11. Their early music can be classified as childish fun, and they have carried that playful spirit through to the present. They joined the Boston Celtic music scene, taking inspiration from other performers. They have performed locally and internationally and are grateful to the collective that worked to shape their musical style.

The Celtic music jam session features wall-to-wall musicians displaying their raw talent. You can see it in their faces and movements, and hear it in their instruments. Even the people who are not playing enjoy the overall camaraderie and joyful celebration.
