Rupi Kaur was born in India and now lives in Canada, where she works as a poet, illustrator, photographer, and author. Actress Viola Davis shared a short clip of Kaur reciting one of her poems, “To All The Women,” and it’s a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come – and how far we still have to go.

“I want to apologize to all the women I’ve called ‘pretty,’ before I’ve called them intelligent or brave,” Kaur begins. “I am sorry I made it sound as though something as simple as what you were born with is the most you have to be proud of.”

She goes on to say that she realizes women are so much more than physically attractive – we’re the pillars that hold up our communities, families, and worlds! See why Davis thought everyone should hear Kaur’s powerful message in the video below, and don’t forget to share this inspiring story.
