According to a June report, the prince banked a $30 million salary from the estate, which he inherited after his father, King Charles, ascended the throne in 2022. The earnings were from the 2024 to 2025 financial year and came from a distributable surplus of £22.9 million ($30.9 million). Prince William is free to use the salary for all charitable, official, and private expenses for himself, his wife, Princess Kate, and their three children, Louis, Charlotte, and George.
The majority of Prince William’s income comes from the Duchy of Cornwall. The estate was established in 1337 by King Edward III to support the Duke of Cornwall, which is a title given to each generation’s heir to the throne. The sprawling estate covers about 130,000 acres of land in both England and Wales and is worth more than $1 billion.
The Prince of Wales “voluntarily pays” income taxes out of his $30 million salary once he subtracts certain household expenses. The estate itself is not subject to corporation tax.
