There are about 200 Renaissance festivals or fairs annually in the United States. Attendees, vendors, and artists often identify them as Ren Faires. There are retail booths with period tools, costumes, and food. Musicians may wander the grounds playing or perform on a stage. Caricature artists almost always have an easel to draw custom cartoon depictions. And now, you can also have hand-drawn butt portraits for a price.

You probably hate doing eyes, noses, and mouths if you’re a portrait artist. Those are the most difficult features to perfect in any portrait. Original Butt Sketch® is the brainchild of Krandel Lee Newton, an engineer-turned-artist. Realizing the allure of the booty, he began to get people to turn their backs on him over 30 years ago.

The company employs several artists and books them at events nationwide, including several Ren Faires. The artist in the video above is Jonathan. You can book specific artists if you have a preference. The world of butt portraits is not limited to Ren Faire appearances. Patrons can book talented artists for any public or private event, including company picnics, parades, local festivals, or even your family reunion.

Each artist is hand-picked and trained by Krandel Newton to ensure consistency and delivery of a quality product. Their styles will differ slightly, but each is a skilled artist in bootyography. Unlike many vendors, butt portrait artists never take offense when you turn your back on them.

Ren Faires allow patrons to dress in costumes and conduct themselves in the ways of the distant past. Most people dress as Renaissance people, pirates, or as Medieval knights. Even Dr. Suess’ Lorax has appeared.
