Was it a new addition to the enclosure? Had she just never noticed it before? Did she spot a centipede or spider taking a sunbath on it or something?
No one’s quite sure what caused this adorable little red panda to so thoroughly flip out when she decided to make a public appearance at a safari and amusement park in southern Japan last spring. Fortunately, a Twitter user captured the whole thing on camera for the public’s viewing pleasure.

Rising up on her hind legs, she tries to make herself appear as big and intimidating as possible — which is hilarious since, in fact, the only thing scaring her is a rock.
After a tense stand-off, the panda decides the rock, insect or whatever it is that startled her doesn’t pose any real threat, but she’s not ready to issue an all-clear just yet. So she slowly lowers herself to the ground and does her due diligence.
