Punch the Monkey Shares A Heartwarming Moment With His Fellow Monkeys

Punch the Monkey

When we first learned about Punch the Monkey, we must admit, we were pretty sad. The poor little guy’s mom abandoned him, and his only friend was a stuffed orangutan. But as the weeks passed, Punch seemed a bit more acclimated to his surroundings at Ichikawa City Zoo in Ichikawa, Japan. He started mugging and waving to visitors, and now, he also seems to have friends. It’s making all of his internet aunts and uncles very pleased.

Some Friends Ran to Punch the Monkey’s Aid

The Ichikawa City Zoo shared an update on Punch the Monkey on X about a recent fall.

“Zookeeper: “It seems he fell into the pond before the 3 PM feeding. Around 5 PM, we saw him playing with young monkeys of the same age. Indoors, he ate a lot of food and ran around, being his usual energetic Punch,” the message reads.

The best part was that the following monkeys came over to play with Punch, and everyone seemed to be having a great time at the zoo. The update relieved fans who are happy to see Punch the Monkey making friends.

“Punch-kun, you try to drink water or splash around in it, but you’re so tiny that you can’t quite reach it and end up slipping down, huh? But I’m really impressed that you can climb back up on your own— that’s amazing! I hope you study all the rules lots while playing lots,” someone wrote.

Another person explained their thoughts on Punch the Monkey and hopes that their community will be kinder than humans can sometimes be.

“It’s just that when I can’t help but view it through the lens of human relationships, it tends to make my heart ache, but monkeys have their own monkey society, which is different from humans, right? When something negative happens to Punch-kun, I imagine there are complaints to the park staff and such, so everyone must be having a tough time. Please take care of yourselves.. Good work,” they wrote.
