Both the color and texture of this coastline are said to be “otherworldly.” When the sun hits the shore just right, it become so reflective, it almost resembles glass or ice. Add on the stunning mountains in the distance and you’ve got one heck of a cinematic view! Speaking of which, a traveler named Cam perfectly captured the essence of this place in the video below.

“I’d cancel my return flight,” someone jokingly admits in reply to Cam’s video. Other commentors add, “The fact that it’s 1am and that bright out it’s gorgeous. Reminds me of Alaska. The sun never truly sets there” and “Now that is the most beautiful color I’ve ever seen, & I know in person it was x100 more gorgeous.”

Welcome to Stokksnes, a Beach in Iceland with Black Sand So Stunning, It’s Hard to Believe It’s Real

You might be wondering, “Why is the sand here so black?” Well, turns out, the answer lies in its location. Iceland is home to a number of rather active volcanoes. As a result, basalt fragments that accompany an eruption cover the beach. Over time, they erode into sand. Something similar happens to places like Hawaii, too. So cool!

As I’m sure you know, Stokksnes Beach is far from the only beautiful place to visit in Iceland. For example, there’s Thingvellir National Park. Here, you can walk the path where two tectonic plates meet!
