The manufacturer being affected is called Totally Cool Inc. — although their name may be unfamiliar, their brands likely aren’t. This includes Hershey’s, Chipwich, Jeni’s, and more. According to the FDA, 68 products have been recalled across 13 brands.

So far, there haven’t been any reports of illness due to these ice cream products. Rather, the recall was based on a discovery made by the FDA. While sampling the company’s products, the presence of listeria monocytogenes was discovered. As a result, an immediate halt on production and distribution was put into place.

Although it’s usually not fatal, severe cases are more likely in young children, older folks, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant people.
The most common mild symptoms include a fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. That said, more severe symptoms are possible. If you experience these, it’s especially important to monitor symptoms to best assess if medical attention is needed. More severe symptoms include:

- Stiff neck
- Confusion
- Loss of balance
- Convulsions
