“Poorly Drawn Cat” Sparks Intercontinental Romance That Has The Purrfect Ending.

Lots of people find their significant others online these days, but there’s something special about a couple that met because of a “poorly drawn” picture.

Back in 2019, Grant Shroeder of Oregon had just gotten a new kitten he named Luna. He decided to commission a picture of Luna from Heloísa Nora, an artist famous for making simple sketches of people’s cats that somehow capture the animal’s essence in spite of their minimalism.

Heloísa shared Grant’s picture on her Twitter page, as is her habit. Emma Ferguson of Liverpool, England also followed the artist. Since she also has a cat named Luna, Emma decided to follow Grant.

“I saw a pic on his account of him holding his Luna,” said Emma. “Cute boy with cat – must follow, of course!”

Grant saw the follow and looked at Emma’s profile, then he started a conversation.

“So I then messaged her on Twitter, saying, ‘Hey, your cats are cute,'” Grant remembers. “We then just started talking about our cats, getting to know each other, and eventually we started FaceTiming every day and slowly fell in love with each other.”

The couple spent the next few years talking online. They finally met in person when Grant went to England in January 2020, and they were thrilled to find their feelings were just as strong offline as they were on. Emma was planning to visit the States that same year but was stymied by the COVID-19 pandemic. They finally met up again in August 2021.

Through it all, they kept talking. On New Year’s Eve 2021, they got engaged, and they finally tied the knot in July 2022!

“Obviously, I had no clue that I was about to find my wife through Twitter, but things have a funny way of turning out,” said the happy groom.

“It’s nice what we can do with the internet these days,” said Heloísa, whose drawing brought the couple together. “I would’ve never imagined that a cat drawing would result in a beautiful story.”

She even created a new “poorly drawn” illustration to celebrate their union.

Neither time nor distance could keep this couple apart! All they needed was a poorly drawn cat (or two!) to show them how much they have in common.
