Last Sunday, officers from the Chicago police department responded to an abandonment call and discovered three girls ages 7, 2, and 1 alone in an vacant house. Their next step was contacting the next of kin. That happened to be the girl’s grandmother, who was “very willing” to take the girls in, but had very limited resources to take care of them due to recent unemployment.

Since that day, dozens of officers from 007th precinct have been moved to action by the young girls and their situation. They have visited them and even brought clothes, food, toys, diapers and furniture. According to the Chicago PD Facebook page, all of these gifts were paid for by officers individually, out of the kindness of their hearts.

Then the officers learned that 2 of the girls shared a birthday this week, so they got involved and threw an impromptu party.

Officers showed up at the little one’s house, and gave them birthday presents, along with cake and ice cream for everyone.

While their acts of kindness seem rare and unheard of these days, knowing that there are police officers out there who care about something as simple as a little girl’s birthday party can warm the coldest of hearts.
It’s a great reminder that they are people, just like you and I, whose truest calling is to serve and protect.
