Good Samaritans Discover 2 Dogs Abandoned At Dump & Rush To Help.

The workers first noticed them several months ago, two small strays eking out a miserable living and scrounging for scraps in and around the Los Angeles recycling facility.

It was hard to watch, so they started leaving out food for them, and even built a makeshift dog house out of a large cardboard box. But as time went on, they became more and more concerned for their safety, especially as they wandered around the nearby parking lot.

So they called a local animal rescue group, Hope For Paws, and two of the group’s volunteers, Lisa Arturo and Clay Greenbush, arrived shortly afterward. Once on site, they found themselves face to face with the so-called “Cold Cut Boys,” Salami and Pastrami.

Salami was immediately friendly and approachable…

The so-called "Cold Cut Boys," Salami and Pastrami, were discovered in the parking lot of a recycling facility in Los Angeles earlier this year. Workers became concerned about their safety, so they contacted Hope For Paws to come out and rescue them. Salami was easy, but Pastrami led them on a little chase.

But it took some doing to catch Pastrami, who was much less trusting. Whoever these people were, he wanted to keep them at a distance.

But Lisa and Clay obviously weren’t going to leave the little guy behind. They cooed after him softly as he led them along the edges of the parking lot, then disappeared into a tangle of nearby brambles…

But they were determined to wait him out, and he eventually headed off to the safety of the cardboard box, the only “home” he’d known since he’d been abandoned.

Now, it was just a matter of waiting for him to duck inside and they could make their move.

Once he did, they just tipped the box onto its side and carefully carried it back to the parking lot…

And from there, to a nearby vet, because who knows what kind of health problems these two were suffering after being out there on their own for months on end?

They both had hairline fractures on their legs, likely the result of a run-in with a vehicle. But they were minor and easily treated, especially compared to the kind of injuries they could have sustained if the workers hadn’t called for help when they did.

And the news keeps getting better: Pastrami recently found his forever home! Salami hasn’t been adopted yet, but at least he has a nice, comfortable, and more importantly, safe place to stay until he does.
