Parents Get 3D Ultrasound And Baby Is The Spitting Image Of Father

3d ultrasound

Many expecting parents look forward to their ultrasound appointments when they are pregnant. It grants them a chance to see the beautiful life growing. While traditional ultrasounds are exciting all on their own, a couple in Brazil got an extra special treat. These parents got to see a 3D ultrasound of their child.

Baby Smiles At Dad’s Voice In 3D Ultrasound

According to the Cleveland Clinic, an ultrasound is “a noninvasive imaging test that shows structures inside your body using high-intensity waves.” 3D ultrasounds differ slightly from the typical 2D ultrasounds given at checkups.

UT Southwestern Medical Center states, ” In a 3-D ultrasound, many 2-D images are taken from various angles and pieced together to form a three-dimensional image.” This couple in Brazil experienced exactly that.

The NY Post shares that “a routine ultrasound scan at 32 weeks captured the incredible moment an unborn baby appeared to smile at the sound of her father’s voice.” When you watch the video, you can see the truth in that statement.

The father is excited when he sees the three-dimensional image of his child appear on the screen. He begins talking to his baby. As soon as the baby hears his voice, a tiny smile appears on its face. The baby’s face returns to a neutral position when he is not talking, but as soon as he begins to talk again, that adorable smile returns.

In that same post, the doctor performing the 3D ultrasound tells the NY Post, “The baby is definitely listening if the family talks at home…and they will begin to identify them.”

Your Baby Is Listening

While this may seem surprising, data supports this doctor’s claim. According to the Lozier Institute, “the earliest evidence of a fetus responding to sound is at 16 weeks. However, the fetus consistently responds to external sounds between 22 and 24 weeks.”

That means that during the second trimester of pregnancy, your baby can hear you and is beginning to recognize and respond to sounds. This includes the voices of their parents. If you want to see this magical response, schedule a 3D ultrasound to see your adorable baby’s smile just like this lucky couple did.
