Oops, Wrong Dog! Golden Retriever’s Family Accidentally Takes Home A Lookalike From Daycare.

Do you think you’d be able to recognize your dog out of a group of pups? According to the experience of the Kelley family in Virginia, you might not be sure until you’re put to the test. It all started when they dropped off their golden retriever, Ehmi, at a local doggy daycare. The Kelley’s opted for Ehmi to get a haircut while she was there, making her appearance a bit different.

That’s why, even though the family’s son thought something was different about their pup when he picked her up, he didn’t think much about it. Things quickly changed, however, when they brought her home.

This adorable golden retriever may have looked like Ehmi, but she didn’t act like her. From the start, the family’s cats were suspicious, eventually attacking the dog. None of them got hurt, but it was a sign that something was wrong.

In addition to the cats’ odd behavior, the dog began to lick their faces, something Ehmi would never do. She didn’t even react to a neighbor she particularly loves. Finally, at 8 p.m. that evening, it hit them: This might not be Ehmi. Could the family have taken home the wrong dog?

They took her to the vet, thinking she might be sick instead, but her microchip proved that she was not at all who they thought she was.

“We just never even thought that that would happen,” Kebby Kelley said. “Of course, we thought we would know, right? Like, we’re her parents, we would know something was wrong. We would know right off the bat that it wasn’t Ehmi.”

Thankfully, they did realize what had happened eventually, and both dogs have since been taken back to their homes. Ehmi’s family isn’t upset with the daycare at all, noting they understand it’s an easy mistake to make.

In addition to being happy that the dogs are back in their homes, folks commenting on the story have pointed out that “only a golden retriever would willingly go home with a complete stranger.”
