Singer Croons For Quarantined Seniors With “Show On Wheels.”

Before the coronavirus hit the U.S., Dallas singer, Norris Perry would make his rounds to different nursing homes and put on performances for them. In the last decade, he says he’s performed nearly 9,000 shows for his audience.

Unfortunately, senior living facilities are no longer allowing outside visitors in an effort to keep their residents safe. Family members of the residents aren’t allowed to visit, let alone a performer. Norris loves the people he performs for, though, so he came up with a creative solution.

In normal circumstances, Norris would play several shows a week at different communities where he’d be performing to a room full of people. He would sing songs across genres, spanning several decades to make sure everyone got to hear something they like. Now, he says, “I miss seeing the faces of the seniors every day.”

So, he got creative and came up with the idea to perform his show “on wheels.” He sets up outside of the living facilities and carries on his performance from a safe distance and with loudspeakers so everyone can hear him if they want to.

He’s shared several videos of his outdoor performances on Facebook, where you can see residents opening their windows, coming out onto their balconies, and setting up chairs to get some much-needed entertainment.

Norris loves his job under normal circumstances, but being able to bring joy to these residents during such trying times brings new meaning to his gigs. He told a local news station, “I feel so fortunate and blessed that the management of the communities sees the value in music for their residents.”

While nothing can replace visits from family members and loved ones, hopefully, the opportunity to feel the sunshine on their face and hear some familiar music provides them a little comfort in an otherwise isolated situation. Norris’ dedication and love for his audience is as remarkable as his creative solution to the social distancing problem.
