NJ Cops Pull Driver From Train Tracks Just Moments Before Impact

Dashcam footage shows train tracks at night. A car is parked right on the tracks. Two officers start to pull a man from out of the parked vehicle

Thanks to the brave actions of two quick-thinking cops in New Jersey, they were able to save someone stuck on train tracks. This harrowing ordeal started a little after midnight on May 12. A car was spotted on the Norfolk Southern tracks. The vehicle remained parked there for a concerning amount of time, so officers Devin Hinchcliffe and John Ward showed up to investigate.

Turns out, there was a single person inside the vehicle. The officers tried speaking to him, but he wasn’t responsive. Worst of all, warning lights began to flash, indicating that a train was on its way. Because the driver was unable to follow instructions, it was up to Devin and John to rescue the man themselves. Footage of this nearly deadly moment was captured below.

“Incredible bravery by the officers. That was a close call, glad they got there in time to save the driver,” someone writes in reply to that intense footage. Another person adds, “[There are] some good people still in the world.”

Police have not released the driver’s identity. They also have not disclosed if he was charged. In any case, it’s clear how thankful everyone is for Devin and John’s ability to take lifesaving action in the face of such a dangerous situation. It’s no wonder the Piscataway Township Police Department took the time to praise these brave officers.

“Recognizing the imminent danger posed by an approaching train, the officers swiftly and safely removed the driver just seconds before impact,” a social media post from the department reads. “Their quick action prevented a potential tragedy, and we commend Officer Hinchcliffe and Officer Ward for their prompt and effective response.”
