In the 1980s, people dreamed of performing in front of Ed McMahon, the head honcho on Star Search. The talent competition showcased singers, dancers, comedians, spokesmodels, and more who dreamed of being stars. Some of their dreams came true. The show saw some pretty big talent in its 13 seasons, including Adam Sandler, Britney Spears, Phil Vasser, and Sinbad. After more than two decades off the air, Star Search will be back with a bang. Netflix has plans to reboot the talent competition in a brand-new live format.

Contestants Can Apply To Audition For The New “Star Search” Now
Netflix announced the reboot in a release encouraging fans to apply.
“This time around, the talent is bigger, the stakes are higher, and the format is more interactive than ever: Each week on Star Search, emerging performers in music, dance, comedy, and kids’ acts will take the stage to compete for a shot at the spotlight. The competition unfolds over time, with eliminations raising the stakes and plenty of surprises along the way. It’s part talent showcase, part high-stakes drama — and it’s all live on Netflix,” the release explains.
Netflix hasn’t released many details about the new Star Search. But hopefully we’ll know more about the host, judges, and premier date soon.
“After 20 years off the air, the show returns with all the nostalgia longtime fans have been waiting for—while pulling in a new generation with fresh faces and undeniable talent. Get ready to meet your next obsessions: the artists poised to take over your screens and playlists for years to come,” Netflix added.
Country band Sawyer Brown got its start on Star Search and recently shared a throwback clip on X.
“Sound off if you miss TV shows like Star Search,” they wrote.
A fan commented, “As Mark would always say during the set, “the original American idol”. It produced a few talents that are still around. Sawyer Brown @littletexasband, I think Brad Garrett also was on it. They should do a ‘Where Are They Now’ Star Search episode.”
