Neglected Golden Retriever Goes On Life-Saving Weight Loss Journey With Vet Student

This obese golden retriever was set to be euthanized, but instead got a second chance with a veterinary student who championed the dog’s weight loss journey! Frannie was eight years old and weighed 125 pounds when she was removed from a brutal situation. This poor pooch was living outside on a concrete surface, and she had a number of nasty sores. Thankfully, she was rescued by Rover’s Retreat before being put down!

Due to Frannie’s weight, which ABC News tells us was double what a golden retriever should weigh, this dog couldn’t walk on her own. That’s when Annika Bram, a vet student at UC Davis, knew she needed to step in. This animal lover had recently lost her dog, Georgia, who had also been overweight. Annika was determined to help the golden retriever meet her weight loss goals.

So far, things have been going pretty well for Frannie! Annika has been sharing the golden retriever’s weight loss progress on social media. When they first began this journey together, the dog needed the support of a harness to stand on her feet. Now, she’s walking and playing on her own! According to Frannie’s Fight on Instagram, she’s down to 91 pounds.

We’re so glad that this golden retriever got a second chance at life through this weight loss journey. While Frannie still has a long way to go, she’s got an amazing caregiver and cheerleader in Annika!
