Need A Hand? This New Robotic Invention Gives You A Few!

Bionic arms are being tested by a young woman.

Whether we’re carrying grocery bags into the house or trying to multitask at work, we could all use an extra arm or two sometimes. Luckily, researchers at the University of Tokyo are working to make that a very real possibility! Euronews reports that scientists have invented bionic arms that can be strapped to a person’s back. The best part? According to Professor Masahiko Inami, these robotic devices are going to be customizable!

“The main feature of these arms is not just to give people more than two arms, but to be able to remove and attach them to share with other people via the sockets on the back,” he said. “In terms of swapping, right now we only have these kinds of arms. But for example if in future you wish to sprout wings from your back or attach a drone, by changing these attachments you can acquire a range of abilities.”
