In a video supplied by zoo visitor Alyssa K., Sedgwick County Zoo staff point out elephants’ protective nature. Bomani, the baby elephant, saw a Canada goose. Baby elephants like chasing birds. The adult elephants recognized the potential danger presented by the goose. The adults, Talia (mom), Simunye, and Arusi, immediately formed a circle around Bomani.

When Bomani encountered a Canadian goose, the females ran to his rescue. 🐘🪿 When elephants perceive danger, they’re known to form an alert circle around the young to protect them from perceived threats. Elephants maintain some herd practices even in human care. The video shows how adult elephants automatically work together to protect the herd’s tiniest member. With the size difference, you might think one Canada goose would not pose a threat to a huge elephant. It may not have under normal circumstances, but parents will be parents.

Baby elephants are always a favorite at any zoo. Like most animals, these little critters are prone to attacks of the zoomies. Watching a tiny elephant run gleefully around is an indescribable joy.
