We can learn a lot from our kids, as one mom has demonstrated by sharing some incredibly wise quotes from her deaf son. This six-year-old boy has an incredibly unique and wholesome perspective on life with cochlear implants. His mother, Felicia Aquilo, was particularly touched by some of the things he’s told her about how he experiences his disability. She compiled some of her favorites into a poignant social media post.

“I recently started keeping a journal of all these things because I never want to forget them,” Felicia wrote in her caption.

This six-year-old boy seems to have discovered a number of advantages to wearing cochlear implants. One of the best quotes this mom shared from her deaf son was about how these devices allow him to pick and choose what he hears.

His words are pretty inspiring!

“My ears come off so I only have to listen sometimes and I like that,” he said.

Based on his words to his mother, this young boy is pretty self-assured. He knows who he is and he likes that person! Wearing cochlear implants has been a pretty big part of his life, so he’s proud of them. He’s also very supportive of other children with the same disability. Mom shared a great quote from her deaf son on that subject, too!

“I like seeing other kids with ears like mine, it means they are super cool,” the little boy told her.

Most importantly of all, this kid understands that his deafness doesn’t make him less valuable than anyone else. It’s a part of who he is!

“When I grow up, I don’t want to be hearing like you and Daddy, I want to be deaf like me,” he said to his mom.
