We’ve all been there… a DIY video comes along and makes us think, “Hmm, I bet I can do that!” It doesn’t matter how complicated the steps actually are because, well, the DIYer in the video made it look so easy! How hard could it be, really? Most of the time, that’s where the story ends… because we don’t even try to attempt the crafty project. Every once in a while, however, it ends in a total DIY fail. That is what happened to Katie, a mom determined to make a doll for her toddler.

Before you see Katie’s process (and hilarious results), it’s important that you know the vision she had for this project. According to the caption of her post, she thought it would look like a gingerbread man. In the end, however, the doll she created looks a bit more like one you’d find on a Halloween aisle. See for yourself in the video below!

“Aw! What inspired the skinless corpse colored fabric?” someone humorously asks. Other commenters add, “The origin of voodoo dolls was a mom trying really hard” and “I fear [your toddler] will love it.”

Sure, creating a whole doll is tricky. But surely decorating a mirror with accent designs is simple, right? That’s certainly what the woman in the video above thought. Unfortunately, there’s an art to this process, and it’s a lot trickier than you might think.
Finally, we have a DIY fail from a second Katie. This mom was trying to help her kids make a flower pot for Grandma. Unfortunately, mistakes were made…

The look of pure devastation on Mom’s face is too real. Thankfully, she was able to salvage the gift by redoing the spots that got a bit covered in white paint. In other words, not every DIY fail is a total disaster!
That said, it seems that having an open mind and a good sense of humor is key to any attempt at a DIY project. Because, if all else fails, you’ll have a hilarious story to tell!
