Mom Invents Grocery Game That Cleverly Teaches And Calms Her Kids During Shopping Trips.

A two-photo collage. The first photo shows a hand holding up a grocery list with images and names of food. The list is in a plastic sleeve. The second photo shows a kid pointing at cheese in the grocery store.

Trips to the grocery store with kids can be quite the challenge. But a mom named Jess, who goes by learningencasita on TikTok, recently figured out a clever way to make these trips better for herself and her kids. The idea stemmed from wanting to teach them life skills. To get started, she created printouts with the names and images of grocery items. Next, she placed those printouts inside a plastic sheet.

Finally, she gave her two kids their own dry-erase markers. And just like that, the kiddos were able search for and circle the items on their list as they found them! Taking their ages into consideration, the one she created for her son was a bit more complex. And because the printouts go into a sleeve, she can make new ones each time they shop! Even Jess herself is surprised by how “grounding” this fun game has been for her kids.

“It kept them so calm, so aware of their surroundings and they were really into it,” Jess said. “And it was really cute to see how they would get so excited for each other and just be so happy whenever they found an item on their list.”
