Kat Downer never wastes an opportunity to tell her dad how much she loves him – even when she can’t be sure he’s listening.
In 2017, Michael suffered a massive stroke, losing his ability to walk, talk, and eat. Even so, Kat and her family know he’s still there for them.
That said, in the years since, there have been times when they began losing hope. They weren’t sure he could understand them anymore, but that didn’t stop Kat from reminding him just how much he means to her.
During one incredibly profound exchange, Kat tells him how lucky she is to have him, that he’s her best friend, and that he has always made her feel happy and safe.
Though Michael doesn’t speak at all, his tears tell her that he understands every word – and that he’s still fighting! It was the glimmer of hope Kat needed to keep holding on.
