Melissa Gilbert shared some unexpected news on Instagram on June 23, 2026. The Little House on the Prairie alum is moving out of her New York City Apartment and relocating full-time to her home upstate. Melissa’s video showed a mostly packed apartment with a crew helping her get it all out the door.

“So long perfect little one bedroom apartment on the Upper West Side. The last eight years here have been so special. A lot of amazing work was done in and around this city. So many theaters and soundstages . So many wonderful dinners with friends and nights out on the town,” Melissa wrote.

It seems Melissa Gilbert will miss her neighborhood and the Big Apple a lot.
“This city truly has a pulse. You can feel it in your heart. Goodbye favorite newsstand, bodega, dance studio, and laundry. Goodbye shoe repair, dry cleaners, nail salon . Goodbye sweet neighbors whom we love so much. And a very fond ‘farewell and see you soon’ to our favorite city in the world. I promise we will be back it’s just that right now…..well….you know,” Melissa added.
Fans wished Melissa Gilbert well on the next phase of her life’s journey.
This person encouraged Melissa to enjoy her time away. “Packing and moving is always stressful and exhausting. Enjoy the peace and serenity in the Catskills! Best of luck with your move,” they wrote.

“Reminds me of the Ingalls family leaving the big woods of Wisconsin. You did a great job packing! Keep moving forward,” a Little House fan added.
