The Oscar-winning actor was among the many A-listers who attended the British tennis tournament on July 13th. But his celebrity status didn’t go to his head when the guests of honor stepped into the stadium ahead of the Men’s Singles Finals.
In a now-viral video shared on X, a fan captures Princess Kate and Prince William and their two oldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, taking their seats in the Royal Box at Centre Court. Behind them, Matthew stands and claps, while several others follow his lead.

“Matthew McConaughey standing to applaud the Prince & Princess of Wales,” reads the caption. “What a lovely southern gentleman.”
“McConaughey surely respects everyone he encounters,” commented a fan after another noted that he had no obligation to stand for the family because he is a US citizen.
“Matthew has always been a class act,” wrote another.
Princess Kate is Prioritizing Her Health Now That She’s Completed Chemotherapy
Matthew’s gesture comes after the Princess of Wales took an extended leave to battle an undisclosed form of cancer. She shared her diagnosis in March 2024 in an emotional video and announced her remission in July of the same year. Kate slowly returned to her royal duties while prioritizing her health and family. As of today, she has fully returned to work.
“She’s looking lovely, as she did yesterday as well,” added another commenter. “And the applause for her is well deserved. People genuinely wish her well after what she’s been through.”
