When Morgan Hafeman and her husband discovered a bunny nest in their backyard, they likely had mixed feelings. On one hand, bunnies are some of the cutest animals. Then again, so are their dogs… who would hurt those bunnies if given the chance. According to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, it’s not uncommon for bunnies who create nests above ground to do so in backyards.

When this happens, they suggest placing an upside-down laundry basket over the nest. This will keep them safe when you mow the lawn (when maintaining a 10-foot distance from the nest). It can also protect them from your pets. That said, you’ll have to move the basket eventually so Mama Bunny can return. Morgan’s husband, however, went above and beyond to keep this precious family safe. See his brilliant idea come to life in the video below!

Wife is Blown Away by Her Thoughtful Husband’s Creative Solution to Protecting the Bunny Nest in Their Backyard
How sweet is this man!? In addition to building a fence that easily allows Mom to come and go as she pleases, he included a camera so him and his wife can admire the creatures from afar. Now, Morgan says her husband plans to add “a fence on top to protect them from hawks.”
It takes baby bunnies around 15-20 days to leave the nest. Once they do, and the nest is entirely clear, destroying it will prevent future use. That said, I have a feeling that Morgan and her husband might not mind taking on the role of “host” for their local bunnies regularly…
Wild bunnies are adorable, but have you ever considered having one of these creatures as a pet? They’re pretty darn adorable, after all. That said, it’s important to remember that bunnies can be little menaces, too!
