It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s… a guy sitting on a couch, watching TV?
In July 2020, Hasan Kaval stunned the world by combining his two favorite things: loafing on the couch watching television and gliding hundreds of feet in the air on a parachute. The 29-year-old from Ismir, Turkey, is a paragliding instructor, but his video should come with a warning: Do not try this at home! Or anywhere, really.
Hasan calls himself a “couch potato,” and he’d had the idea to attach a sofa to his paragliding gear for years before finally making it a reality. His friends helped him put the rig together, then launched him off of a steep cliff and held their breath as he first wobbled, then glided off without a hitch.
In a video that has been viewed over 10 million times on YouTube, Hasan then casually changes into his slippers, flips through the television’s channels, and snacks on some chips as he soars over the mountains and beach of Ölüdeniz. At the end of the ride, he lands so smoothly that he actually makes it look easy!
Later, he told The Daily Mail that he wasn’t scared at all. In fact, he “felt so good and relaxed.”
