Community Rallies To Bring Beloved Cafe On Brink Of Closure Back To Life.

The Maltby Cafe is a small family business that has been serving their Washington state neighbors for 36 years. Unfortunately, due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, they had to close down for several months, which left them in a tough spot.

The cafe is well-known in the area. Even celebrities have stopped in for some of their famous all-day breakfast dishes, including their gigantic cinnamon rolls. So when their community found out they were inching closer to shutting their doors permanently, they stepped in to save the day!

The COVID-19 lockdown caused the cafe to lose 90 percent of their revenue. Tana Baulmer, the co-owner of Maltby, was preparing to accept their fate, but she wanted to make it through the holidays first.

“We have a lot of employees,” she explained. “What are they gonna do for rent? What are they gonna do for Christmas?”

While Tana was praying for a miracle, her community was coming together to show them incredible kindness! Someone started a GoFundMe campaign, which raised over $100,000 in less than a week! Plus, their neighbors began ordering takeout as much as possible, doing everything they could to help the business stay afloat.

Their takeout orders increased so much that they started getting more than they had before the pandemic!

Between all the new business and the fundraiser, Tana said she can “see the light at the end of the tunnel.” She believes the cafe will pull through, and it’s all thanks to what she called the “Miracle at Maltby.”

What a moving reminder that we can accomplish so much good when we work together! Not to mention, really good cinnamon rolls are always worth fighting for.
