“Little House On The Prairie” Is Getting A Netflix Reboot—Here’s What We Know

Little House on the Prairie Reboot

It’s hard to believe the beloved television series Little House on the Prairie celebrated 50 years in 2024. The world fell in love with the Ingalls family and its patriarch, Charles, played by Michael Landon. Melissa Gilbert shot to fame in the 1970s playing Laura, the freckle-faced main character whose adventurous spirit sometimes got her into trouble. Based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House book series, the show ran for nine seasons and 204 episodes. The show ended in 1983, but Netflix has a Little House on the Prairie reboot in the works. According to Tudum, Rebecca Sonnenshine, of The Boys, The Vampire Diaries, Archive 8’s fame, will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

A Little House On The Prairie Reboot Is Pretty Darn Exciting

Per Tudum, since the Little House book series debuts in the 1930s, they’ve sold more than 74 million copies and translated into nearly 30 languages. Per Nielson, the series had 13.25 billions minutes in 2024 alone. Add the 50 years of viewership before that, and it’s mindboggling how popular the show really is.

Rebecca said she’s been a Little House fan for years.

“I fell deeply in love with these books when I was 5 years old,” she said. “They inspired me to become a writer and a filmmaker, and I am honored and thrilled to be adapting these stories for a new audience.”

Little House on the Prairie has captured the hearts and imaginations of so many fans around the world, and we’re excited to share its enduring themes of hope and optimism with a fresh take on this iconic story,” says Jinny Howe, vice president, Drama Series, Netflix. “Rebecca’s vision threads the needle with an emotional depth that will delight both new and existing fans of this beloved classic.”

Trip Friendly’s father, Ed Friendly, produced the Little House movie in 1974 that spawned the original series. His company Friendly Family Productions will also executive produce the Little House on the Prairie reboot. “It has been a long-held dream of mine to carry on my father’s legacy and adapt Wilder’s classic American stories for a 21st-century audience in a way that brings together fans of both the books and the original television series,” says Friendly, CEO of Friendly Family Productions.
