5 Years Before He Wrote “Hamilton,” Lin-Manuel Miranda Pulled Off This Joyful Wedding Surprise For His Bride.

At the airport, while on a vacation from his hit Broadway show “In The Heights,” Lin-Manuel Miranda decided to pick up and read Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, a biography of Alexander Hamilton. After finishing the first couple of chapters, Miranda began envisioning the life of Hamilton as a musical… and the rest is history.

The Broadway sensation has since surpassed all expectations, making unprecedented box office sales. The historical musical is literally making musical theatre history. Hamilton set a new record at the Tony Awards with 16 Tony nominations, winning 11 (including the coveted Best Musical award). The show has now expanded to Chicago, but with tickets in both New York and Chicago selling out months in advance, it’s still not easy to get a seat! With that being said, we found a little something that might help tide you over.

Back in 2010, Hamilton writer Lin-Manuel Miranda married the love of his life (and his friend since high school!) Vanessa Adriana Nadal. At the wedding reception, the genius writer had the surprise of a lifetime in store for his new wife in the form of song, dance, and plenty of fanfare. The entire wedding party– including the bride’s father– was in on the surprise Fiddler on the Roof performance… and the result is too wonderful to miss.

My surprise for my wife Vanessa on our wedding day. All of Vanessa’s close friends and family rehearsed for a month in secret, leading up to the reception. What we lack in polish, we hopefully make up for in joy and love. In any event, everyone in this video has one thing in common: We’d do anything to show Vanessa how much we love her.

Check out their incredible performance below! It’s no surprise that Lin-Manuel Miranda has come so far.
