Latina Singer Takes A Big Risk, But Has Every Judge Smiling By The End Of Beautifully Unique Audition.

You’ve probably heard of Selena Quintanilla-Perez (better known as just “Selena”)– the Mexican-American artist best known for her influence on music and fashion in the 90’s– but have you heard of Elia Esparza? Up until now, Elia Esparza was an unknown, aspiring singer-songwriter from El Paso, Texas… But she just broke onto the scene in a big way, with The Voice’s first audition entirely sung in Spanish. And she blew the judges away.

Elia stunned the judges with a rendition of “Como La Flor” (translated “Like a Flower”), Selena’s Tejano hit of 1992. To cover a song originally by a singer, now recognized as the most influential Latin artist of all time, is a bold move, but it definitely paid off for Elia!

“Thank for being different!” says Adam Levine as soon as the audience’s applause dies down.

Elia says she wants to do pop music in both English and Spanish. “I love that you can do both.” Adam says. “You did something that was very refreshing, and I think that should be rewarded.”

“You didn’t watch the last 10 seasons to see what worked, you did something completely new.” added Miley Cyrus. “Stay[ing] true to who [you] are, that will get you so far.”

Check out her awesome, unique audition below and share her success today!
