Kelly Clarkson told Kylie Kelce on the latest episode of her podcast Not Gonna Lie that she didn’t know Idol was a TV show.
“I didn’t even know it was a TV show until my third audition. Like, we were literally trying to pay our bills. We’re like, ‘Oh, this might work. I might meet someone or whatever.’ Nobody knew it was gonna amount to anything.”
Kelly Clarkson Was Just A Kid When She Won “American Idol”
Now at 42, Kelly Clarkson reflected on her American Idol experience, telling Kylie, “We were literally, like, kids, you know, 19 years old just trying to pay my electric bill y’all. You know, and afford the deductible on my car that was bashed in that I couldn’t afford. So it was a different thing.”
Kelly added that following her Idol success, she felt isolated. Even after solidifying herself as a superstar, other artists weren’t always so nice.
“People were really mean,” Kelly recalled.
But now, she’s not really concerned about what others think. And why should she be? She’s obviously a force to be reckoned with.
Fans loved hearing Kelly Clarkson talk about her American Idol experience and her blooming friendship with Kylie.
A fan wrote on YouTube, “That may have been my favorite interview to date. Kylie and Kelly seemed like old friends hanging out, it was a great energy!”
This person agreed, “Absolutely loved these two together; did we see a new friendship emerge right before our eyes? Now Ky needs to be a guest on Kelly’s show!”
