Kate Hudson Emotionally Details How Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell’s Romance Helped Teach Her The Meaning Of Love

Kate Hudson says Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell’s relationship taught her everything she needed to know about loving and being loved by a partner.

The 45-year-old actress and singer spoke with PEOPLE ahead of the release of her debut album, Glorious, which includes several songs focusing on love, and she’s well aware that her parents gave her a strong understanding of true respect and commitment.

“Their strongest value is their dedication to that unit,” she told the publication. “They’ve been through everything together. And it’s such an amazing thing to see, especially as they get older, how beautiful their relationship is. It’s so loving and caring.”

“They’ve stuck with it,” she continued. “It’s like a very rare Hollywood story. They’re in it forever. It’s wild.”

Kate Hudson Considers Kurt Russell Her Father

Kate’s biological father, Hudson Brothers singer Bill Hudson, was not active in her life after he and Goldie divorced in 1982. So when Goldie and Kurt started dating a year later, Kurt was the only true father figure in her life, and he took that role as a privilege.

“I feel so unconditionally loved by Kurt… he’s the best,” she told The Howard Stern Show. “I was just so lucky..and I think my mom knew it.”

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell ended up creating a blended family with Kate and her brother, Oliver, who is also the son of Bill Hudson, and Kurt’s son, Boston, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Season Hubley. Goldie and Kurt also share one son, Wyatt.

Because Goldie had been married twice before and Kurt had been married once before, neither one of them ever felt the need to say, “I do,” but that doesn’t mean their relationship was lesser because of it. In fact, their decision to stay together through the hard times when it was just as easy to walk away proved their devotion even more.

Kate Hudson is forever grateful that Goldie and Kurt “stuck it out.”

“Through all of the highs and the lows,” she told PEOPLE, “then all the stuff that comes with what it is to love a partner, your friends, your children . . . What a glorious thing to have so much love.”
