Jordan Stiers spent much of her childhood in the foster care system. When she was 10-years-old, Jordan and her four siblings were adopted by her grandmother, “Nana” Roxanne Edwards. From that moment on, Jordan knew she would be cared for and safe.

“She took us in when things were tough,” Jordan said. “It’s been rough for her, but she’s taken care of us, so I’m going to take care of her.” On Saturday, the Kansas University student was offered the chance to win $10,000 if she made a half-court shot at the basketball game. She was allowed to nominate someone else to take the shot as long as they were not on the team. So she nominated assistant coach, Brennan Bechard. With fingers crossed, he took the shot for her. Before the ball left his hands, Jordan purposed in her heart to give all the money to her grandmother.

“I was just thinking about my Nana and what I was going to do to help her,” Jordan said. “I’ve always thought about that one question: ‘If you win so much money, what are you going to do with it?’ And she’s helped me a lot in my life, so pay it forward.”

After the half-court shot dropped perfectly through the net, and she won the $10,000 Jordan immediately broke into tears. She finally had the chance to pay her grandmother back for all the years she dedicated that changed her life forever.

“She’s my mom. She’s my dad. She’s my grandma – she’s everything,” Jordan said. “She has done so much for me, taught me so much.”There’s nothing I can do to repay her, but this will say thank you a little bit.”

Of course, the gesture was worth far more than $10,000. She knew the care and love she had received was priceless.

What a wonderful way to thank the incredible woman who deserved every bit of it and more.
