Dad Runs Past Firefighters, Straight Into Flames To Save Beloved Family Dog.

We’ve all been posed with the question “if your house was on fire, what would you try to save?” though we all hope to never have to actually make that decision one day.

Jose Guzman was recently faced with that decision when his home went up in flames. As firefighters worked to control the blaze, Jose ran back into the house, risking his own life to save one very important thing – his dog.

Thankfully, Jose’s wife and three daughter’s weren’t home when the fire broke out, but his dog, Gabbana was. Despite the firefighters’ pleas for him to stay put, Jose didn’t hesitate to run inside the house, where he found Gabbana huddled inside a bathroom, the only room in the home that had not been burned.

A passerby caught a video of Jose’s bravery. In it, the firemen working on controlling the blaze audibly tell Jose to turn back, to which he replies “there’s a dog in there!” before he continues running inside the burning home.

Some time passes as the firefighters watch the home before Jose and Gabbana appear, alive and well.

Jose and Gabbana each suffered some burns to their bodies but are both expected to have a full recovery. When asked about his decision to run in to save the dog, Jose emotionally told a news station, “She’s been with us forever. She’s part of the family. We love her.”

While everyone made it out of the home safe, Jose’s family lost all of their possessions, including tools he needs for work to provide for his kids. Jose’s sister has set up a gofundme to help raise money for the family to get back on their feet – which has already raised nearly $75,000. It seems that his heroic deed has not gone unnoticed.
