Jon Bon Jovi Shares “Clever” Note He Wrote To His Parents At 16 To Kickstart His Career

Jon Bon Jovi Note

It’s sometimes hard to believe that some of our favorite musicians are regular people just like us. Their songs have served as the soundtrack of our lives for as long as we can remember. But before they were making hit records, they were kids trying to convince their parents to help make their dreams come true.

We know Jon Bon Jovi as the frontman of Bon Jovi, one of the most successful bands of the 1980s. Bon Jovi gave us Livin’ On A Prayer, which served as an anthem of a generation. He recently sat down with Kelly Clarkson and shared a sweet memory from his teenage days.

Jon told Kelly he wanted a fancy Fender guitar but knew he couldn’t afford one. Being a bit of a salesman, he took a grease-stained paper plate and wrote a note to his parents from the point of view of his worn-out Japanese guitar.

He said that he was old and tired and needed to be replaced, to which his mother wrote back on the plate telling him to “Take 2 Excedrin” and rest.

Jon Bon Jovi Called Himself a “Hoarder.”

Jon Bon Jovi shared that he ended up selling his first guitar and getting an upgrade. But the person he sold it to held onto it and, 45 years later, sold the guitar back to Jon. He not only has the instrument but the original note on a paper plate.

He told Kelly he wrote a song for his new lamb called My First Guitar dedicated to the sweet memory. Kelly loved the story and the sentiment.

So did Bon Jovi fans. As a person wrote on Kelly’s Instagram post, fostering a child’s passion is very important.

“Whenever your kid comes to you and asks for a musical instrument… Stop what you’re doing and get them one! ^cool story.”
