John Stamos Nearly Quit “Full House” for the Wildest Reason

John Stamos Full House

When John Stamos agreed to play Uncle Jess Katsopolis on Full House in the late 1980s, he was already a certified heartthrob. He played Blackie Parrish on General Hospital and anticipated walking onto the set of Full House as the show’s big star. But as production began, he soon realized that he wasn’t the star he thought he’d be, and it nearly led him to quit a job that helped define his career.

John Stamos Found Himself a Tad Jealous on “Full House”

John Stamos told Access Hollywood he wanted the laughs, but noticed that the kids were the ones stealing the show.

“I said, ‘This is my show.’ And we start reading, and then this little one just starts doing the jokes and hitting every joke out of the park,” John said, standing next to co-star Jodi Sweetin. “I got maybe one or two laughs, you know, at the table. And I’m just slowly like sinking down.”

John Stamos admitted that he nearly left Full House.

“I remember running out to the payphones at the time and jamming in a quarter, calling my manager, ‘Get me off this show,’” John said.

Of course, we know how that conversation ended, and John admitted he later fell in love with the show.

“John stomas is my man I love him so. Much on the tv show full house,” a fan wrote.

“When I was 6 years old I got lost one day it was around ‘86 or ‘87. It was a Friday and I couldn’t wait to watch full house that night. I sang the full house theme until I got home,” another fan recalled.

Can you even imagine Full House without John Stamos? Have mercy!
