Sam Smith and John Legends are, well, legends. But the two of them together? Magic. They’ve both already had massively successful careers individually, and they are both talented singers on their own. But this collaboration is a masterpiece even by their superstar standards.
The artists teamed up to record this video for “Lay Me Down” in support of Red Nose Day 2015, a fundraiser that supports the UK-based charity Comic Relief. Founded in 1985 by comedy scriptwriter Richard Curtis, Comic Relief seeks to end famine in Ethiopia. This video has clear ties to that mission…and wow is it heart-wrenching.
The passion in their voices, coupled with the powerful lyrics, makes for a moving song. In addition, the footage of families and kids in orphanages in Africa create a powerful story of hope.
