With COVID-19 cases rising by the day, more companies are stepping up to help fight the spread.

One of the most critical issues regarding the outbreak is that hospitals are close to running out of essential supplies, particularly masks and gowns. Without them, healthcare workers can’t safely do their jobs. That’s why JOANN Fabrics and Crafts stores are using their products to empower the public to help as well.

Starting on March 23, stores across the nation began giving out free materials, including kits, for people to sew protective masks and gowns through JOANN’s Make to Give initiative. Anyone looking to join in can pick these up curbside and drop them off at any open location. Once finished, they will be donated to hospitals in need. The craft retailer is also holding in-store classes on how to make these items, providing sewing machines and supplies while also following CDC-recommended guidelines on social distancing.

“The amazing thing about the crafting community is that, especially in difficult times, they are always looking for ways to help,” said Wade Miquelon, President and CEO of JOANN.

“We are seeing hospital workers, organizations and individuals coming into our stores for supplies to make these essential items, and our customers are asking us how they can help. So many are spending their time and money to help in this tragic situation, and we want to step in to do our part to protect the amazing people who are helping the communities we serve.”
