Few People Know About Jason Day’s Heartbreaking Childhood, But How He Overcame Is Inspiring.

Jason Day is one of the most famous players in the world of professional golf. Currently, the 27-year-old is ranked #2 by the Official World Golf Rankings, just after Jordan Spieth.

But the drive and strength behind this Australian-born’s successful career is built upon something deeply emotional.

Jason was born into a town of about 3,000 people named Beaudesert in Queensland, Australia. His family was so poor growing up that they would dig through garbage sites just to find furniture. But one day, Jason found a club and a tennis ball.

“I hit it, and [dad] turned around to my mom and said ‘This one’s going to be a champion one day.'” That’s when Jason was just 3-years-old.

From there his passion grew to the extreme, having one goal: to be the best in the world. He played golf as much as he possibly could, always with his father’s support. But his father passed away when Jason was just 12-years-old… and that’s when he began drinking and getting into trouble as he felt so disconnected. “He just went off the rails,” his mother said.

But with sacrifice, Jason’s mom sent him to an international school where his passion was reignited. He won tournament after tournament, always picturing himself as the winner.

“It was an opportunity that was from an unfortunate thing that happened to me – a tragedy that happened to me – but changed my life for the better.”

Watch below to see how he overcame great tragedy to become a man of grounded principles and success.
