On Mother’s Day, the very best gift you can receive is to spend time with your children.
Tina Stoilova of Sydney, Australia doesn’t get to spend nearly enough time with her kids. A hardworking mother of four, Tina works long hours, including overnight shifts, at the local Coles’ supermarket in Roselands. Not only that, but her oldest daughter, Donna, moved to the United States twelve months ago, and Tina hasn’t seen her since.

Tina and Donna have always been close, so the long distance between them hit both mother and daughter hard. Unable to afford to make the long trip overseas, the mother and daughter made do with phone calls and emails, but Tina feels her daughter’s absence like a missing limb.

Unbeknownst to Tina, Donna had been in touch with Sydney’s Kiis FM radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, also known as Kyle and Jackie O.

The radio hosts often do a segment on air called “surprise give-backs,” and Jackie had set up a huge surprise for Tina in order to give her the best Mother’s Day present imaginable.

Radio station workers have set up hidden cameras in the grocery store where Tina works, and Jackie tells their listeners, “She doesn’t know that her daughter Donna is in one of the aisles.”
“We’ve flown the daughter over from the states and nobody knows about it,” says Kyle with a knowing nod.

The Coles’ camera captures Tina at work, stocking shelves, while Donna examines cereal boxes in an aisle nearby. Kyle then gets on the store’s P.A. system and announces that Tina is needed in aisle 6… and the game is on!

You can feel the anticipation as Donna waits for her mother to spot her. At first, Tina walks right by her daughter without realizing who she is, but then she stops and does a double-take.

Tina is overcome by the strength of her emotions. She instantly starts to cry, doubling over with the unexpected wave of love and shock that must have passed though her in those moments.

After Tina finally go a hold of herself, she grabbed her daughter for the world’s tightest hug. Can you blame her? It has been twelve long months since she’s seen her girl!

When Kyle and Jackie get Tina on the phone to tell her they were behind the surprise, she can barely choke out a thank you to the popular radio hosts.
“My dream has come true,” she said tearfully.

“Well, we just wanted to give you a beautiful Mother’s Day surprise,” Jackie said, holding back tears of her own.
They definitely succeeded in that mission. What a fabulous way to celebrate Mother’s Day!
