Pyrography was a new word for me, so let me explain it in case you haven’t heard the word either. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines pyrography as, “the art or process of producing designs or pictures (as on wood or leather) by burning or scorching with hot instruments.” Think about woodburning, but using a torch, and much more detailed.
When I first saw the work of Alex Peter Idoko it left me without words. The typical adjectives do his art no justice. Words like amazing, incredible, and astonishing just don’t describe Alex’s artwork adequately. Alex is a self-taught artist from Abuja, Nigeria. On his portfolio website, Alex says, “As a very dedicated artist who hopes to make a positive impact through my creations, I am committed to using art as a means of social change to raise awareness of greater concerns.”
Alex uses fire and additional mediums and tools to create his stunning pyrography portraits. One visit to his Instagram page and you’ll understand what has me struggling for words.
