Grab your tissues. First for big sads, then for big warm fuzzy feels. Cousin Homer is a musician and a dog owner. Recently, he had to put his 13-year-old best friend, Bella, to sleep. He wanted her to have the best last day ever, complete with a special meal. He called Cheddar’s restaurant and asked for the biggest steak they had.

When they asked Homer about his choices for side dishes, he painfully explained the steak’s intended recipient. He added some French fries because he thought Bella might like those. When Homer went to pick up Bella’s order, the manager offered verbal condolences and offered the meal courtesy of Cheddar’s restaurant.

The bag held another surprise. There was a card signed by what appears to be every employee who was on staff that day. The thoughtfulness of the restaurant and staff made one of the hardest days of Homer’s life just a little bit better.

It is never easy to say goodbye to an animal. They are in our lives for a fleeting moment, but consume a large part of our hearts. Homer was so moved by the actions of Cheddar’s restaurant that he wanted to publicly tell everyone what they did. In helping Homer make Bella’s last day better, they offered compassion and went above and beyond to serve her with a smile.

If you have a Cheddar’s restaurant in your neighborhood, Homer would like you to show the chain some appreciation for their actions. Homer had Bella cremated, and he keeps her urn as a remembrance of the special bond they shared. In the video comments, Cheddar’s stated, “The hard times deserve comfort. We’ll never forget Bella and the good memories.”
