Iconic Rock Band Announces Commemorative 50th Anniversary Album

Pink Floyd

In 1975, Pink Floyd released the album Wish You Were Here, one of the band’s most important albums. In celebration of the 50th anniversary, Pink Floyd announced Wish You Were Here 50, which will drop on December 12. This isn’t just a release or a digitally remastered vinyl. Pink Floyd will take fans back to the 1970s with photos, unreleased music, and stories about this incredible era. Sony Music Entertainment will release the album in multiple formats, including 3LP, 2CD, Blu-ray, digital, and a Deluxe Box Set.

“In the 1970s, album covers were equally as important as the music, because the cover helped to sell the record. Record stores would carry 10,000 different images in album sleeves, so what we were doing had to look different and stand out amongst the crowd,” Aubry “Po” Powell shared in a news release. “I remember turning around to Storm and saying, ‘How are we going to set a man on fire? Because there was no digital way of doing it in those days. He said, Po, you’re just going to have to do it for real. That was it.”

Pink Floyd Fans Loved The News

Pink Floyd posted about Wish You Were Here 50 on Instagram, and fans can’t wait to get lost in the music once again.

“Undoubtedly the greatest album of all time,” a fan wrote.

Others hoped this was just the first of its kind for Pink Floyd.

“And please do the same in another year for Animals and remaster the Oakland and Montreal shows?”  A fan requested.

“Hope the same happens with the Animals anniversary,” someone agreed.

“Now please do the same with a proper anniversary editions of ALL your studio albums. Plenty of material that still haven’t been released (concerts, outtakes, alt mixes, video footage, single edits, etc). And of course, new stereo, 5.1 and atmos mixes,” another person chined in.
