Several months ago, mom-of-two Mallory Ellis opened up on TikTok about how her family’s life changed when her husband, Darrell, woke up in the middle of the night, saying that he needed to go to the emergency room. It turned out that he had a few blocked ventricles in his heart. Doctors performed an emergency bypass surgery, which Mallory wasn’t sure he would survive.
Darrell pulled through thanks to the life-saving procedure, but his hospital visit and lengthy recovery time put his family in a precarious financial position. Since her husband was unable to work, Mallory picked up the slack with a second job. However, it still wasn’t enough. The family eventually lost their apartment.
It took months for Darrell and Mallory to find another place to live with their kids. In the meantime, they stayed with friends and lived out of hotel rooms. Despite the situation, Mallory was encouraged by the number of positive comments she received from strangers on her social media posts. She credits finally being able to rent a home to their prayers and good wishes.
A heartwarming video shows the moment that Mallory and Darrell revealed their new home to their two sons.
“This is our house,” says Mallory in the clip, “We signed the lease today. We move in on April 10.”
At this, her younger son burst into tears, overcome with emotion. Immediately, his big brother folded him into a hug.
While finding a place to live certainly meant the world to Mallory and her family, their story didn’t end there. When her TikTok followers learned about her new home, many responded with offers to help them furnish their new place.
“I’m just so overwhelmed with the amount of generosity and love that we’re receiving,” she said in another video. “Say what you want about the internet. People are good.”
In touching reveal video, Mallory shared the moment she showed her sons all the incredible gifts they’d received from complete strangers.
“We still have more to pick up,” she wrote in the caption. “You all are AMAZING!”
