Holy Toledo! What’s cuter than a newborn polar bear cub? You guessed it: two newborn polar bear cubs! And the dedicated staff at the Toledo Zoo just couldn’t wait to share the cuteness.
The twins were born in early December 2022 to their 23-year-old mother, Crystal, and 18-year-old father, Nuka. There was tremendous excitement surrounding the birth of these cubs, whose names and genders have yet to be revealed. As Michael Frushour, Curator of Mammals, explained on Facebook, this was the first set of polar bear twins born at the zoo since 2010.
Polar bears are considered an endangered species. Understandably, welcoming two healthy cubs into the fold was met with great fanfare and public interest. The Toledo Zoo is keeping everyone in the loop with an initial birth announcement and accompanying video on Facebook. Plus, Crystal and her adorable cubs are live daily on the zoo’s YouTube channel.
As for any possible additions to the polar bear family, the future looks bright. Crystal was already mom to seven other polar bears when her new cubs arrived.
