Going out on an adventure in nature comes with some unavoidable risks. For example, there is always a chance that you’ll come across an intimidating animal, like this massive mountain lion. But animals are not the only things to keep an eye out for while exploring the great outdoors. Visitors to Lower Calf Creek in Utah, for example, also have to worry about falling rocks.

The danger of these rocks can be seen in the shocking video below. In it, we see a group of swimmers having a blast. They start to submerge themselves under the water when a rock falls… and another and another. The speed of these rocks alone will send shivers down your spine. Thankfully, nobody was injured. Located in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, this beautiful waterfall is understandably quite popular. Tons of people flock here for the gorgeous views and a refreshing dip in the water. Much of the time, this doesn’t pose any serious issues. That said, moments like this do happen more often than you might think.
Several Rocks Fall From a 126-Foot Waterfall in Utah, Narrowly Avoiding the Group of Swimmers Below
According to the National Monument Manager Ade Nelson, “outdoor recreation can be inherently predictable.” In turn, they do their best to ensure “everyone understands the risks when they visit.” That said, when that many rocks fall from a 126-foot waterfall, there is reason for concern. So, in order to understand what caused this nearly tragic event, an assessment is being done in the area. At the time of writing this article, the results have not been shared.
“We are working hard to assess the situation and figure out how to reduce the risk,” Ade explains.
