Heron Takes Up Relaxing Perch On Farm Front Porch & We Really Wish We Could Join!

Image shows a Great blue heron relaxing on a porch swing watching the sunrise.

The Birdie Buffet on TikTok posts videos of birds taking advantage of her backyard feeder. She might want to rename it “Fat Frank’s” because her most frequent guest seems to be a squirrel she has dubbed with that moniker. For now, let us tell you about the heron on the porch.

In the way back when, the person posting as Birdie Buffet lived in the middle of a 500-acre farmland. On an otherwise quiet Sunday morning, their German shepherd was emitting a “weird squawking bark.” Looking out the window to see the cause of the ruckus, they were met with an unbelievable sight. Sitting on the porch swing, swaying gently, was a blue heron. No pomp, he was just sitting on the swing, enjoying the sunrise.

An oldie but a goodie. Many years ago I lived in the middle of 500ish acres of beautiful farmland. I woke up one Sunday morning to my GSD freaking out and heard this weird squawking bark. I opened my window to this beautiful blue heron that along full advantage of my partly decorated porch just enjoying his time on the swing while the sun came up. #backyardbirds #BirdieBuffet #birdtok #fyp #greatblueheron

Although they may live in a new place, there are plenty of wild birds around, and even a great blue heron nearby. Another visitor is this cute downy woodpecker. They enjoy a wide variety of wild birds, including doves, cardinals, finches, blue jays, and other common species. However, the most frequent visitor is a greedy squirrel they have named Fat Frank.

Meet Fat Frank. #FatFrank loves peanuts. Fat Frank knows that I am the provider of said peanuts and shows his appreciation by burying his hoard of peanuts in my yard #BirdieBuffet #fyp #FrankTheSquirrel #squirreltok

Frank is a sneaky little fellow who tries to grab all the peanuts before the blue jays get them. When he thinks no one is looking, he perches himself in the bird feeder and eats to his heart’s content. Frank does not seem to be bothered by the local bird population. Likewise, they don’t seem to mind him hanging around either.

Although she may never see another heron on her porch, it looks like there will be no shortage of other birds and random animals visiting the Birdie Buffet. Follow the Birdie Buffet for more of Frank’s antics.
