Groom Goes Viral After His Epic—But Adorable—Wedding Vow Gaffe

groom vows

A groom in the UK was feeling all the emotions and nerves when he stood at the altar and spoke his vows to his bride, which made him a bit too tongue-tied.

Robert and Amy Thomson said “I do” during a small ceremony in Essex last April, and Robert mixed up a few words when he was repeating after the officiant. In an interview with SWNS, per The New York Post, the gaffe was “a moment no one can forget or live down.”

While Robert admitted that it was “such a lovely day,” a video shows that he was having a hard time keeping it together. Every time he looked at his soon-to-be-wife, he sweetly blushed and looked choked up. So he had a hard time focusing on his lines.

“I call upon these persons here present to witness that I, Robert James Thompson do take thee Amy Susan Sheila Jacqueline Aldon to be my lawful wedded wife,” he said. “As I take you to be my wife, I promise to love you, to honor and respect you.”

“I will stand by you and be true to your will,” he continued. “I will care for you, laugh at you when you’re happy, laugh at you when you’re sad.”

The moment he said “laugh at you when you’re sad,” Amy nearly fell over in laughter. And the entire chapel erupted. It took him a moment to recover from the snafu. But he managed to pull himself together and say, “I will comfort you when you’re sad.”

“I don’t think he realized until the reaction,” Amy laughed. “We’ll never forget it.”

In the end, the newlyweds think the slip-up is a highlight of their wedding day. And now they’re living happily ever after.

“I did see the funny side of it,” he added. “And our family and friends definitely saw the funny side of it too!”
